Malta benefits from excellent health services whether public or private. The main hospital Mater Dei in Msida is a teaching hospital opened in 2007 replacing the much older St Luke’s public hospital. Here you will find a variety of specialists. A smaller general hospital is located in Victoria on the sister island of Gozo.
8 public health centres around Malta & Gozo offer general practitioner and nursing services as well specialised clinics such as immunisation, antenatal and speech therapy.
There are a number of private hospitals and GP clinics across the islands where treatment is at a charge, these also include dentists and cosmetic surgeons.
Health insurance is always recommended, although Malta does have a reciprocal agreement with a number of countries which is constantly updated and therefore it is recommended to check with your local health authority for the latest information.
