The People

For thousands of years, Malta has been influenced by all the civilisations that dominated the Mediterranean. Contact with so many different cultures has made the Maltese amongst the most cosmopolitan people in the world, with a very strong sense of national pride and identity. This is a peace-loving nation with a strong sense of hospitality and family values, with a strong work ethic. The agreeable warm climate, with sunshine throughout the year, enables them to enjoy a sociable lifestyle that cherishes outdoor pursuits. These factors undoubtedly contribute to the high standard of living and good health of the Maltese.
The national language is Maltese, however, both Maltese and English are official languages. Many people speak three or more languages.
